Hey Sisters,

The SCN was created by Crystal-Rose Pay, Solicitor in Leeds. Here's a little context on the WHY behind the Sisters Collective Network...

I recently qualified as a Solicitor in September 2025 (officially on the Roll of Solicitors - YAY! What a journey!). On qualification I found myself reflecting on the parts of my journey that truly shaped me. It wasn’t just the textbooks or the exams. What stood out most were the connections I built, the friendships I made, the skills I developed, my mentors, those who have inspired me along the way, and the moments I spent mentoring others. These experiences inspired me to create something meaningful for women who are navigating the challenging path from university to the legal profession. That’s how the Sisters Collective Network was born.

Finding Purpose Through Mentorship and Connection

During my voluntary time as a Work Experience Co-ordinator for 15-months in 2024/2025, I had the opportunity to work closely with schools, teachers, parents, and students. My goal was simple: make their work experience placements as enjoyable and valuable as possible. I attended school fairs, ran classroom workshops, presented on panel discussions, facilitated meetings between students and legal professionals and I have provided guidance for training contract and legal role applications. These moments were eye-opening. I saw how much students and graduates wanted guidance and real-world insight into the legal profession, and I found fulfilment in providing this.

As alumni of the University of Law, Leeds, where I completed the Professional Legal Practice Course combined with Masters in 2017, and now in 2026 with 8 years experience working in professional practice (from conveyancing assistant to trainee to solicitor), I understand the gap between academic study and professional life.

Building a Community Where Women Support Women

Throughout my upbringing, my biggest supporters were my mum and sister. My mum, in particular, is a powerful example of resilience and empowerment. She overcame her own obstacles and showed me what strength looks like from a young age. Her resilience, ambition, kindness and compassion for others flowed into the character of my sister and I. My experience with my upbringing and my experience navigating the legal profession is what brought me to create the Sisters Collective Network.

The Sisters Collective Network is more than just a platform. This is your community — a community where women in law can connect, share knowledge, and support each other to become the best version of yourself. This community aims to bridge the gap between university and the legal profession by providing practical guidance, mentorship, and opportunities to build skills and the opportunity to make professional connections. But it’s not just about what the network offers — it’s about what each sister brings to the table. Taking initiative, building connections, having a positive outlook, treating peers with kindness, being respectful, and staying curious are key.

What the Sisters Collective Network Offers

The Sisters Collective Network focuses on three main areas:

  • Connection

Creating a social space where students and graduates can meet peers, mentors, and professionals who understand their journey.

  • Skill Development

Offering workshops, panel discussions, and resources that help members develop the skills needed to succeed in law.

  • Guidance and Support

Providing mentorship opportunities and advice to help navigate the transition from university to the workplace.

These elements come together to form a supportive environment where women can grow both personally and professionally.

Why Taking Initiative Matters

One of the many things I have learned, is that success in law, often comes down to taking initiative. The Sisters Collective Network encourages members to be proactive. Whether that means reaching out to a mentor, attending a workshop, or simply asking questions, taking that first step can open doors.

I remember when I was a student, figuring things out independently was the norm. But having a community to turn to can make a huge difference. That’s why I’m passionate about creating this space where women can lean on each other, for each other.

Staying Curious and Lifelong Learning

Law is a constantly evolving field. Staying curious and committed to learning is essential. The Sisters Collective Network promotes this mindset by encouraging members to explore new areas, ask questions, and to never stop growing. The learning does not stop when you qualify and obtain your practising certificate.

Life is for learning, and the legal profession is no exception. By fostering curiosity, you will stay ahead and adapt to changes in the industry.

Your Role in the Sisters Collective Network

This community is what you make it. It thrives when members actively participate, share experiences, and support one another. Whether you’re a student just starting out or a graduate building your career, there’s a place for you here.

  • Build your connections

  • Make new friends

  • Take the initiative to build your skills

  • Stay curious and open to learning

By doing these things, you contribute to a strong, supportive network that empowers women in law.

With love,

Your Sister
